Vintage Effect Medium - Pentart 101 - Episode 34

How to use Pentart Vintage Effect Medium

Vintage Effect Medium is a water-based medium used to imitate aged, antique, weathered effect on painted surfaces.

How to use Vintage Effect Medium Step by Step:

  1. Apply a layer of paint, and allow the paint to dry.

  2. Spread the medium evenly over the dried paint with a sponge dabber or brush in random areas.

  3. After the medium has dried, apply another layer of paint on top of the medium and finally allow it to dry.

  4. This last layer of paint will become easily sandable thanks to the Vintage Effect Medium.

  5. Varnish preferably with a matte varnish.

Vintage Effect Medium sample

Vintage Effect Medium can be used over decoupage paper. Before using the medium, the decoupage paper must be sealed with a varnish. Apply the medium over the decoupage paper, and then allow the medium to fully dry before applying the final paint layer. Sand off the dried paint to reveal the decoupage paper. Varnish as the final layer.

Tip: You can repeat the Vintage Effect Medium steps onto one project by layering as many paint colors as you want.

Vintage Effect Medium works differently between chalky and acrylic paint.

When applying over Vintage Effect Medium on chalky paint, the last layer of chalky paint will sort of resist. Try to get a full coverage of the final chalky paint. After drying, sanding off will be a bit more difficult because there is chalk in the paint.

With Vintage Effect Medium over acrylic paint, the final acrylic paint layer will go on smoothly. After drying, sanding off the paint makes it easier to remove with applied pressure.
